This newest version takes advantage of the added features introduced by Microsoft’sWindows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) with Advanced Security Technologies.FRISK Software has, in recent months, worked with Microsoft Corp. To ensure the smooth interaction of F-ProtAntivirus for Windows and the new Windows Security Center. The free service pack from Microsoft delivers the latest security updates and innovations, establishes strongdefault security settings, and adds new proactive protection features that will help better safeguard computersfrom hackers, viruses and other security risks.
Windows XP users who also use F-Prot Antivirus for Windows shouldupdate to F-Prot Antivirus for Windows version 3.15 in order to maximize the security of their systems.' Microsoft is pleased to be working with FRISK Software to deliver a great computing experience to our mutualcustomers,' says Neil Charney, director in the Windows Client group at Microsoft. 'F-Prot Antivirus works withthe Windows Security Center to keep users updated on the security status of their systems.' The most important new feature introduced in version 3.15 of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows (released 30 June 2004)is the addition of an online virus signature file update checking facility, called the F-Prot Antivirus UpdateMonitor. The program now automatically checks for new available virus signature files every fifteen minutes, whenever the system is online. The Update Monitor does not download any files but is, in effect, an extensionto the F-Prot Antivirus Updater, notifying the user when new virus signature files need to be downloaded. The virus signature files update status information is conspicuously displayed on the program's startup sothat users can see at a glance whether updates are needed. Users can then download the new virus signature files, either manually with the Updater or set the Scheduler to do so at regular intervals.
As a result of the additionof the F-Prot Antivirus Update Monitor, it is now even easier than before for users to ensure the constant securityof their systems against new and emerging threats.' Version 3.15 of F-Prot Antivirus introduces improved monitoring of the virus signature file update statusand greater interaction with the Windows XP operating system,' says Fridrik Skulason, the company's founderand CTO.
'The reliable protection for which F-Prot Antivirus for Windows has become so well known is bothcontinued and strengthened with the release of version 3.15. The popularity of F-Prot Antivirus for Windowscan be attributed to a combination of a number of factors, not least of which is the world-renowned antivirusengine at its core, the user-friendly interface and the fact that the program is extremely light on systemresources. These are features that our customers have come to both appreciate and expect from our productsthrough over 10 years of antivirus research and development at FRISK Software.'
